Jibber-Jabber n’ babble on…

As a performing-songwriter, I have the luxury of writing from personal experiences as well as vicariously observing others

and exploiting their scenarios…does that make me somewhat of a voyeur?  Maybe…

Childhood drama and psychological trauma; there was none. Unless you consider the fact that my childhood was molded by fairytales,

show tunes and a warped version of the catechism; which only served to engage my highly spirited and overly zealous imagination!

Go figure….

I grew up with an array of musical influences. My mother, a professional ballet dancer; had the family record player spinning Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and various Broadway musicals. When the records did stop; my father played flamenco guitar with really cool syncopated Latin rhythms. And my older sister would listen to the local am radio station introducing me to a plethora of musical genres

so between them all; they formed the inspiration and foundation for my musical dreams and the obligatory nightmares…

I acquired my first “real” job at the age of twelve; working for a dairy, washing milk bottles and let me tell you, rotted milk stinks!

Then I spent maybe five minutes cleaning a hotel room. A stopover at Mc Donalds; once upon a time their French Fries were fried in

beef fat…loved it!! And although I never played with dolls as a child, I somehow wound up dressing Mannequins for the local

J.C. Penney’s store and that is where my musical journey began…

Call it fate; or it could be just my supervisor, knowing how much I loved to sing and the fact that she was engaged to a musician,

kindly recommended me to a studio when the hired singer did not show up to record a radio jingle.  With my heartbeat racing,

I raced to the studio, sang the designated part and five days later I was invited by one of the session players to join his band.

Holy shish kabobs and Hallelujah!!  But wait! Convincing my mother to let me sing in a band was another story; and after what seemed

like an eternity and a never ending stream of German profanities - that cannot be printed without the web site being blocked; I was given permission to join the band. Sixteen years young, who knew where the music would take me…

"Sarah Montes...an alluring singer."

Michael Paskevich, Las Vegas Review Journal,

“Sarah Montes…truly a fabulous voice."

Norm Johnson, Showtime Magazine

One could say I had a Musical Addiction. After college I went on the road; singing with rock bands, country bands, variety show bands and along the way I learned to sleep with my feet towards the front of the bus in order to prevent concussions due to inevitable sudden stops.

I learned to squat over the tour bus toilet as drunk musicians seem to hit everything except for the inside of the toilet bowl. And most importantly, I learned how to setup and run a P A system! How cool is that!

By golly, I was a road warrior and truly at home on stage.  I found the influence and power of music fascinating and to be able to share an emotionally charged connection with the audience was and still is magnificently overwhelming…

"Sarah sings and performs with a kind of easy confidence, and plain happiness

to just be on stage doing what she loves; which translates into an equally enjoyable

experience for the audience. … A close musical encounter of the satisfying kind."

Alan Roy Scott, Veteran Songwriter and Founder of Music Bridges Events.

So I formed my own band; traveling and performing throughout the U.S. at corporate engagements, U. S. Military events and

27 of the finest show rooms in Las Vegas; most of which have been imploded in typical Las Vegas fashion; and we do it with such pizzazz and style don’t you think?!  It was during this time that I had the privilege of performing and sharing the stage with numerous well known artists such as The Jordanaires, the Guy Lombardo Orchestra, The Letterman, Debbie Reynolds, Jerry Lewis, Wayne Newton, Porter Wagner, Michael Martin Murphy, Lacy J Dalton, John Conley, Sweethearts of the Rodeo, Rodney Crowell and Clinton Gregory to name a few.

Then came the A & R record people with the promise of label deals and a plethora of possibilities…but alas, the first deal was kiboshed due to musical differences, the second deal ended due to budget cuts and the third deal ended due to my own personal moral qualms… oh why did

I have to have a conscience?

Fortunately Fate played her part introducing me to a salesman for Dolby or so I thought… and a wonderful friendship formed; bringing about the LP release ~

                                                                       Sarah produced by Keith Olsen

And then there was ~      Long As The Day Is

"As you imagine Sarah's music; just close your eyes

and see a slinky red dress, a big black grand piano and of course

Sarah in front of the mic…it's all about a vibe."

Keith Olsen, Grammy winning producer and engineer

"The lyric and musical styling of Sarah Montes

is what music truly should be!”  Carlena Gower, Actress

“Long As the Day Is; the arrangements are wonderful, but I must admit

I enjoy Sunny Day perhaps the best. It is impossible to not want to dance

to that number. Even an old guy like me can make some smooth moves listening to you sing

and swing on that song…. it is truly great!”

Daryl F. Gates Chief Los Angeles Police Department, ret.

Then off I went on a jaunt back to LA with longtime friend and colleague Pat Navarre to write and record with Hip Hop

Producer DeVante Swing, Flo Rida and another old time friend, Nick Dean- newcomer to Suburban Noize Records.

With the demand of a second Jazz album; I spent a lot of time traveling between L.A., Nashville and Las Vegas. So you ask,

“How many studios does it take to record 10 songs?” In this particular situation; survey says, “6”.

And Voila! Introducing ~  fromVegas…with Love

Famed mega record producer and longtime friend Keith Olsen produces five songs for

Sarah's new CD ~ from Vegas with Love

for jazz singer Sarah Montes' new album ~ from Vegas with Love

From Vegas With Love re-establishes a musical sound reminiscent of a 1940’s

speak-easy with a modern twist of delightfully amusing lyrics and spicy, persuasive feminine charm.

The album is candid and mature while Sarah’s voice delivers the perfect skosh of vulnerability that is

undeniably delicious!

“I like a jazz singer named Sarah Montes- you should buy a

CD next chance you get.”    Alexandra LaDuca; Noel Hynd’s

and quality set firmly in today. With over 3000 concerts in 52 cities all over the world

Sarah Montes has earned her market.”

Keith Olsen, Grammy winning producer and engineer

“The songs are brilliant, like something from the forties themselves-or earlier - Cole Porter

or Gershwin… the song lyrics are smooth, clever and often witty and have their

own, independent cleverness’s.”

Which brings us to my most recent endeavor ~ Sassy

WARNING: POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while listening to Sassy include frivolity, the tapping of toes and snapping of fingers,

a warm tingling sensation, moments of uncontrollable emotion, excitement, dizzy pleasure, giddy laughter, fever, and thoughts of love and absolute bliss that could result in permanent and irreversible happiness. If you experience one or more of these symptoms, please continue frequent listening doses of Sassy for a healthier, happier, you!

“I love Sarah Montes. Her music makes me happy. The performances, arrangements and songs

take me back to the music that my parents loved and shared, but also to the fun and sophisticated performances of the great jazz singers of today.  Her band is fabulous and frames her unique and compelling vocals with style, skill and class.  Great music that is fun, compelling and timeless.

She brightens up my day (and night), and as a bonus, has some great wheels.”

Ed Cherney- Grammy winning producer and engineer

I have had such a wonderful time writing, recording and singing this compilation of songs and I hope that you enjoy listening to them as much as I enjoyed creating them! Thank you for supporting me in my musical adventures and please continue to purchase dozens of my CD’s for your friends, family, neighbors, strangers….and anyone who looks like they could use a musical fix to brighten their day.

Much Musical Cheer, Thanks and Love!
